Water Damage Insurance Claim Help

Water damage insurance claim help starts before anything is thrown out: photos, the cause of the water and moisture readings are what an adjuster asks for first. Lakeridge Restoration records all three on every job, plus drying logs and a list of what was removed, so you are not the one collecting evidence.

This is general information, not insurance advice. Your policy wording decides what is covered.

What your adjuster usually needs

  • Photos and video of the damage before anything is removed.
  • Where the water came from. The cause often decides coverage.
  • Moisture readings showing how far the water spread.
  • Drying logs showing the readings went back to normal.
  • A list of what was removed and why.

We provide all five. On a recent burst pipe job in Whitby we filmed before, during and after the work for the claim. Keep receipts for anything you pay for because of the damage.

Do you bill my insurer directly?

[TBD: yes or no]

What you pay

Usually your deductible, plus anything your policy does not cover. Your adjuster confirms the amount.

What is usually covered

Sudden, accidental damage such as a burst pipe often is. A slow leak over months often is not. On many Ontario policies, sewer backup and overland water are endorsements you add, so check whether yours has them.

Claim questions

Should I wait for the adjuster before cleanup starts?

No. Policies generally expect you to limit further damage. Take photos, call your insurer, and we document the conditions before removing anything.

Can I choose my own restoration company?

Ask your insurer. Many let you choose. Tell them which company you have called.

Should I claim at all?

If the damage costs less than your deductible, or close to it, a claim may not make sense. Ask for a price first.
